How Grass-Fed beef can improve your and your family’s health

BeefCuts

Sometimes you think you eat healthy, because you buy your food at Health food store. Think again. Nearly 100% of the beef sold in USA health food stores is not “real” beef. Even though it may be organic, the cattle are fed grains and grains are NOT what cattle are designed to eat… they should eat only grass. Yep.

Today, not only do most beef cuts have a high fat content, from 35-75%, but the majority of it is saturated. Very unhealthy.

Grass fed beef has an omega 6:3 ratio of 0.16 to 1

This is the ratio science suggests is ideal for our diet, about the same ratio that fish has. Grass fed beef usually has less than 10% of its fat as saturated. If you are a pregnant or breastfeeding mom, the extra omega 3 from the grass fed beef will provide incredible nutritional benefits for your child. Again Think about it!

An University study showed that kids low in Omega-3 essential fatty acids are significantly more likely to be hyperactive, have learning disorders, and to display behavioral problems. Omega-3 deficiencies have also been tied to dyslexia, violence, depression, memory problems, weight gain, cancer, heart disease, eczema, allergies, inflammatory diseases, arthritis, diabetes, and many other

Grass-fed beef, unlike grain-fed beef is:

  • A natural source of omega 3 fats High in CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid)
  • Full of beta carotene
  • Loaded with over 400% more of vitamins A and E
  • Virtually devoid of risk of Mad Cow Disease

I am not really a Meat-eater. I am not a big fan of red-meat. Because in fact, I never liked the meat I found  here in the supermarkets. Therefore, beeing European, and raised in rural area we were lucky to eat the best beef, lamb, pork and poultry. So when I discovered last year in Temecula Farmer’s Market than Megan (farmer and owner) of  MM Livestock Farm in Wildomar, CA was selling Grass-Fed meat I was so thrilled and  I wanted to try.  I bought ground beef and top sirloin. The meat was tender, with nutty flavor and an amazing thing is that the fat is a completely different color than grain fed beef. It is nearly clear and much thinner.

I purchased what I thought was “grass-fed” beef from MM Livestock – who you tout on your web site. Not only was the meat not USDA inspected, the steaks were like shoe leather and the hamburger – which looked to be 50% fat – actually made my husband and I very sick. You really should take her off your site. She is a SCAM.

Hi Jessica thank you for your comment. This post was written three-years ago. At this time we were very happy with Megan’s Grass fed meat. I also used last year her grass fed meat for an upscale Private Cooking Class with truly meat-eaters and meat-lovers and her meat was excellent. I have not used her meat since last year, I do not see her at the Farmer’s Market anymore. I will do some research where did you buy her grass fed meat?

    Hi Celine,

I’m a friend of Megan’s and I’m writing to let you know that Megan’s website had some problems but we have created a new website for her. Same web address, but for some reason your link isn’t getting through. Just thought you’d like to know. Thank you for all your generous comments about Megan and MM Livestock Co. I agree, Megan’s meats are wonderful and so good for our bodies. I also encourage everyone to come take a look at Megan’s new website. mmlivestockco.com

    Bonjour Celine,
Thank you for this post! I have seen the grass fed beef and been afraid to try it. I really didn’t know all these healthy things about it, so you have encouraged me to give it a go the next time I am in the co-op store.
